The team at Hanson European Caravan Transport Ltd, say their Mandata transport management system has proven to be a huge asset since going live last year.
The company based in Beverly, East Yorkshire transports abnormal loads including caravans and lodges for Parkdean Resorts and other companies throughout the UK and Europe. First established in 2006, the business has undergone significant change since being acquired by Parkdean in 2022, when the previous owners retired.
Managing Director, Steve Yates and his team laid firm foundations for growth, implementing a raft of improvements to compliance, health and safety practices, and introducing new operational processes supported by a new transport management system from Mandata.
Steve Yates and his Operations Manager Michael Rutherford, worked closely with the Mandata team to ensure the TMS aligned with its processes to quickly deliver value to its team and customers.
Michael Rutherford explains: “We wanted a system to help us run our operations smoothly and provide a complete overview of where everything was moving from and to.”
“We were planning on paper, and everything was a great challenge. The slightest change was very difficult and time-consuming to manage.”
“Also, the office was chaos”, said Michael. “Every job had numerous pieces of paper, and we had to bring it all together before confirming progress with customers and invoicing the job.”
One year on, and Hanson’s new transport management system is playing a critical role in managing many aspects of its streamlined ‘paper-free’ abnormal loads transport operation.
The company is using the full range of Mandata transport management solutions, including a Go transport management system (TMS) to create and plan jobs, the Manifest app for driver communication, live status and PODs. They also use Mandata’s integrated vehicle tracking with driver and vehicle behaviour, and tacho downloads for driver’s hours. The integrated system provides full visibility from the moment the driver starts the job, to receiving photos and PODs, once it’s complete.

It’s evident in speaking with the team, that they’re really pleased with the TMS. The company’s Managing Director, Steve Yates likes the visibility it brings. He said: “It has been a game-changer. It gives me a full overview of the business; everything is so transparent.”
Steve says going digital has also been key to differentiating the business. He said: We’ve received fantastic feedback from our customers who say that our new system has been a real game-changer for them too. They tell us they’re with us because they’ve seen our systems. In fact they’ve found the changes we’ve made unbelievable, and it’s given them the information they want.”
